The building had been the largest inn within city limits since the 16th century. In the 18th century it grew into a "palais" with wonderfully designed rooms, suites and banquet halls.
In 1852 the building was taken over by Ferdinand Sonnhammer, who gradually change the "Palais" into an upper-class hotel, and gave it the name "Hotel Erzherzog Johann", after the well-liked Styrian archduke.

* The traditional Viennese coffee house offers traditional coffee and home-made cakes and pastries, as well as international newspapers. You can also find the famous "Ernst Fuchs Bar" here, which was designed using drafts and paintings by Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs.
* All the individually furnished rooms reflect the elegant atmosphere of the former baroque palace. A sauna with sun deck, a infrared cabin and a fitness room complete the range of facilities.
